Unable to import videos into timeline

I hit import mp4, it attempts to buffer for a second, it then disappears, and nothing is imported. No audio or video. 

the areas where the import should go are all highlighted so that should not be the problem or solution. 

Using macOS big sur 11.0.1 also premiere pro 2019 (because premiere pro 2020 didnt work for me after much trial and error)

also experiencing horrible lag/choppiness. tried making a proxy and during the media encoding the proxy failed after 3+ hours of waiting.

2020 is not fully ready for Big Sur let alone 2019.....

If Iwere you I would revert to previous OS.
