A film I have been showing locally (thus far via HDMI cable from my macbook) will be showing at a theater that uses DCP files. The people there don't seem to know much about how to master and deliver this file. I tried an output from Premiere using the Wraptor DCP output and had some issues. I posted a query on another forum and the answer leads me to believe that it isn't as simple as just outputting a file. This is what this person said:
DCP players are by nature Linux based. You should deliver a EXT2 formatted disk.
Then:
Your biggest problem is how to create a DCP. This is NOT 'just a file'.
For that you need specialized software, and a lot of knowledge.
(Going from one colorspace to another, padding HD to proper 2K resolution, make sure you have no interlaced material in it, mapping audio tracks, do proper naming etc.)
So, make a good master and outsource, or spend at least a week learning all this stuff.
(Outsourcing probably sets you back 600 bucks, but you might get lucky.)
Has anyone here had success creating a DCP and delivering it? Was it simple or did it involve special software, altering the file in advance of output, etc?
