Write In Brush Dotted Line

I'm using write on and when i use the brush it only makes spaced out dots in a straight line, even if I trace a curve... trying to make a writing text effect... any ideas as to how to fix this?!?! can't seem to find answers anywhere. Using MacBook pro trackpad btw
