I read your note. The latest iPhone shoots a couple of formats that are not supported: HDR and cinematic mode. Could that be the issue? Some are even reporting issues with standard H.264, but I would suggest trying that by switching the Camera Settings to that format.
In the meantime, as a workaround, you can transcode the footage in iMovie or freeware Shutter Encoder. For a temporary solution on mobile, you can also check out Project Violet by Adobe Labs: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/project-violet/id6466123985
