Cannot render to file

I'm unable to render a simple 5 minute video to a file. The only modification i've done is to speed up the video 500%

I'm using a thinkpad x1 carbon:

i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, plenty of hard drive space.

Is this normal? Can my laptop just not handle this task? I've tried other video files from gopro or my dashcam.

Does it happen with a specific file?
