Multiple duplicate empty projects

I use Rush with an external SSD on two computers, and occasionally on my iPad. My media files are mostly on this SSD, but when I work on the iPad the media is sometimes stored on iCloud. Last month, I started getting duplicate projects in my project list that's saved to Adobe's cloud. It seems to have grown exponentially. For a while, every time I used Rush, several projects would be duplicated, but they contain nothing. It only seemed to do this for about 4 or 5 projects I did last month. I probably have several hundred, and possibly over a thousand duplicate empty projects now. It wouldn't be an issue except is takes longer to load initially, and it's sometimes difficult to find the original project. When I do find the original, I rename it to indicate that it is the good version with content. This program behavior doesn't happen with new project I create now.
I tried chatting with support, but that was a complete waste of time. Their recommendation was for me to just delete the duplicates. I've tried deleting each project individually, but even on a newer Mac Studio it takes about 10 seconds to delete a project that's in the cloud. It would take days or weeks to complete this task. I searched for a solution but didn't see anything about this issue.
The way I see it, Adobe has launched a product that was bug-ridden, has minimal functionality and lacks any ability to handle repetitive or global tasks, such as multiple delete where I select a checkbox next to each project and then hit DELETE.
Is there an easier way to remove all these duplicate projects?

Yes, I read your issue and understand.
I see this as an issue related to the removal of sync on February 1, 2024. If you didn't back up the projects to all devices by that time, Rush cannot link to the files. Sorry for the frustration. You might want to check your computer and then launch Rush to see if the "missing" projects are still there.
Thanks,
Kevin
Hey there, @BenSheppard123,
Thanks for the message. Do you have OneDrive or another file backup system connected to Rush? That might be the problem. Take a look and report back. I hope the community can help.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Erich,
Sorry for the issue. I am Kevin, one of the community managers here. I am not on the dev team, but perhaps I can help you troubleshoot.
You said that you use multiple computers and a mobile device. My workflow is that I start on the iPad and then move that project to the desktop for fine trimming and export.
Is it possible that you are moving edits from the iPad, then back to a PC, and then back to the iPad, or something like that? I would try a workflow that only goes in one direction, if possible. Does that work? Let me know.
Thanks,
Kevin

I can confirm this bug as it has happened to me twice. Let me simplify the issue:
- I use Rush without issues for months on my iMac.
- Then suddenly the next time I launch it, I have over 100 duplicates of a recent project and over 100 duplicates of another project. All of the duplicates are corrupt and won't open.
- I have to spend hours manually deleting all of the duplicates. (Why isn't there a way to select multiple projects at once????)
- Since I have the "Sync project with cloud" setting enabled for all new projects I create, all of my projects show the "computer + cloud" icon.
- However, the two original projects that got duplicated over and over show the "computer" icon (no cloud) suggesting that these 2 projects are stored locally. This shouldn't be the case since "Sync project with cloud" was checked when I created them.
- I think there must be a connection issue at times that prevents a project from successfully syncing. Then Rush keeps trying to sync over and over and accidentally creates a duplicate project each time.
As much as I love Rush, if this keeps happening, I'm gonna have to find another app to use which is a HUGE bummer.

I'm surprised there aren't more people posting about this issue. I've already spent hours attempting to delete each of the corrupt duplicates and I've barely scratched the surface. At this rate, it will take me months to clean this mess up. Hopefully before then, we will have a batch delete option.

Same bug here, more then 300 duplicates and it is growing by the day. I use too sync with other computer but now i am turning that optoin off for al my project. But this is a lot of work.

This has been an ongoing issue for me as well.
In my case all of the empty files are on the cloud side. I also think it tends to flair up again when I've used up my space on the Creative Cloud and turn off syncing. At that point it seems like something gets out of sync. Even after turning syncing back on and deleting all the 'shells', it continues to replicate and compound.
Is there a prefence/log file that needs to be rebuilt?

Hi @ericfenton @erich43267886 and @artichoked,
Thanks for the detailed notes. It is interesting that it is happening to muliple people on this thread, yet I don't see the same problem on my computer. Can you reach out to one-on-one support for troubleshooting? Ask for the "video queue" here. Let us know what they say after working on your project.
Thanks,
Kevin

I use Rush on my desktop and on the iPad. Things worked fine for about a month and then I started getting random project duplicated. I too have tried deleting them, but every time I start the program, it seemed like the list of empty duplicate projects grew even more. It now takes several minutes to scroll down to the bottom of the list, that is, when Rush does crash on my Mac desktop. On my iPad, it loads, freezes, restarts the program, loads, freezes again, and maybe abends back to my home screen. Rush is basically unusable now, so I've resorted to doing everything in Premiere Pro, which is overkill for many of short reels I'm producing. The fact that Adobe keeps insisting they can't replicate the issue, just speaks to how poorly their customer service has become. I'm regretting paying for a subscription to deal with this frustration. A simple mass delete function in Rush would go a long way to fixing this, but apparently the users affected by this are a big enough nor loud enough group.

Hey @erich43267886,
Thanks for the note. Do you have iCloud enabled or similar? That might be introducing such issues. If so, can you disable it and test again? Let us know.
Thanks,
Kevin

If I disable iCloud, with 9 Apple devices, nothing will work. But for purposes of testing, I'll try it.

Disabled iCloud altogether and nothing changed. Same 3,000+ empty projects and growing. Now I have to turn on iCloud and rebuild my photos, contacts, notes, etc. I don't think the problem is with iCloud. To me (and anyone else with similar issues) the culprit is pretty obvious.
Again, I ask, can some basic functionality be added to 1) show the number of project, 2) allow display in an alternate format, such as list, 3) allow selection of multiple projects with a checkbox to allow actions on more than one project, 4) or simply just start all over with nothing?

Now I noticed on my desktop Mac, that if I scroll to the bottom of the Projects, and just leave it, the scroll bar will move up a little every few moments. Without any count of how many projects there are, it's hard to know if Rush is creating even more empty projects or if it is simply a glitch that is moving the scroll bar. Since I'm not creating projects, I can only assume that new empty projects are being created in the cloud. Is that any way to just completely erase everything that is in Rush in the cloud?

Hi @erich43267886,
Thanks for the note. Oh wow, you had 3,000 projects loaded? Your issue may be beyond the scope of community help. Sorry we could not assist in a timely manner and my ideas did not work.
Can you reach out to one-on-one support for troubleshooting? Ask for the "video queue" here. The chat pod is in the lower right corner. These are the video specialists. Not sure if that was the team you were working with before or not. Let us know what they say. I hope they can assist.
Thanks,
Kevin

I have the exact same issue - so much so that Premiere Rush is now unusable on my iPhone and Macbook. There are now literally 100s of duplicates of all the videos i have made. I see the duplicates and on my mac.
What's the fix please..?

Hi @Reading Drones,
Sorry about that. Are you using OneDrive, iCloud, or any other drive-syncing software? That is probably at the heart of this issue. Let us know.
Thanks,
Kevin

Yes, this happened to me just today.
Any luck to bulk delete Adobe? Very frustrating.

I am still waiting many months for a fix. If you start Rush without internet, then connect you will see it their issue.
