Been trying to get into using Rush - I know it's good but is exceptionally lethargic. There's a latency to everything that's very frustrating.
Running it on an iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5. 16 GB Memory 1600 MHz DDR3
Any tips would be very welcome.

That DOES sound frustrating. I wonder if you've updated your OS recently! Rush was built for compatibility with the most recent OS versions, so go ahead and check for software updates by following the instructions here:
How to update the software on your Mac - Apple Support
