Playback very choppy

I am working with GoPro 9 videos (mp4 format) and have just started with Premiere Rush version 1. 5. 54. I have imported three short videos and playback is extremely choppy. To the point where I simply can't edit. I am working on MacBook Pro Desktop IOS 11.2.3. version.

Any ideas for the possible solution?

Have you checked to see if your computer needs updating?

Usually, that solves my problems.

I have just run all the updates and still the problem persists. However, thank you kindly for suggestion.
