Premiere Rush 'unresponcive'

I just put Rush on my laptop, largely because Pro has been making me reinstall drivers every day.

But! Rush won't even let me start a project. If I try to upload clips (that worked fine in Pro, because I'm redoing a project) it freezes and says it is "unresponsive".

I just spent the afternoon updating my drivers etc, so as far as I know, everything should be up to date. I have a laptop running windows 10, with an i7 processor and 16 gb memory.
