Automatically apply conditional build tags

Guest

I am going to need to use a lot of the same Help topics for two different products. My goal is to use the same Help project for the two different products and use conditional text to generate a separate .chm for each product.  I am trying to avoid going into over 1000 help topics and applying the build tag wherever I use one of the product names, and then doing the same thing for the other product name. Is there a way for me to automatically apply a conditional build tag to all occurrences of a product name for all my help files?

Hi there

Product Name... This is screaming Variable! If you have RoboHelp 6 or newer, you have Variables available to you. So you could replace the Product Name with a Variable.

If you have RoboHelp 6 or 7, your only option is to use a Find and Replace utility to locate all occurrences of the Product name and replace it with a Variable. If you have RoboHelp 8, I belive there is a script that is included with RoboHelp 8 that facilitates it.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks, Rick! Variable it is! We have Robo7 so I guess you are saying that the Multifile Search & Replace in it does not search text and replace the html source with the variable tags, which is what I need to do? Any suggestions on a tool that would do that well?

FAR from http://www.helpware.net/FAR could search for a term and replace it with the code for the variable. Don't do this without a backup of your project. It would be easy to get it wrong and whilst the code in your topics can be amended, I am not certain RH's internal files will pick up the change so things might not work as planned.
