Can I Add to an existing TOC when Linking Word docs in RH8?

I have a help system, the content of which is maintained in Word documents outside of RH. I want to be able to link these Word documents using the new RH8 linking feature and also import their individual TOCs. The RoboHelp 8 documentation suggests that I can append the TOCs in the linked Word documents to an existing TOC. In the Word Document Settings dialog, however, the option to select an existing TOC is grayed out, despite the existence of three separate TOCs. You can see this in the screenshot below. Is it possible to append TOCs like the documentation suggests, and how do you do it?

Thanks,

Chuck

Hi Chuck

I'm not exactly sure under what conditions the option to add to an existing TOC becomes enabled or disabled, but I'll toss out a suggestion.

Note that you may have many different Tables of Contents defined in a project. You may also nominate any of them to be used when you create output. One possibility includes defining a new, empty TOC that simply pulls together other TOCs. You would use the PlaceHolder feature for this.

You could repeatedly insert TOC Placeholders that point to the other TOCs to build a "Master TOC" that would be nominated as the TOC to use when creating your output.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks Rick,

That's a useful workaround, and I may end up doing that. I'm still interested, though, in finding out if it will work how the documentation suggests it does.
