Can't Upgrade RH 2017 Project to RH 2019

We acquired RH 2019 in December 2018, and I upgraded my RH 2017 project to 2019 with no problems. However, when I saw that the Related Topics button wasn't supported yet, I started using RH 2019 Classic. I recently saw that Update 4 (released in January, 2019) supported the Related Topics button, so I installed that update, deleted my old upgraded project, and tried upgrading again. It won't work. It creates the file structure, but never fills it in with actual files. With my first successful upgrade in December, everything completed in minutes. I've let this one run for over an hour and there's nothing happening.

To be clear, you are trying to upgrade a copy of the project from a 2017 version and that is what is now not working.

There's another thread running with a different upgrade problem but working with Update 4.

See what is suggested there and post back here with your answers.

Two hours and 15 minutes. That's how long the upgrade took. It did eventually work, just much slower than it originally had.

Is this on a local drive or a network drive?

Local. C: drive.

As an aside, all Related Topics are now showing up like:

Which looks like:

There's no button anymore? The online help (https://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/user-guide.html) doesn't seem to support searching and I can't find any directions on how to get it looking back how it did in 2017/2019 Classic.

The appearance has changed as covered in the RoboHelp Reimagined sample project and the RoboHelp Tour on my site.

You can change the default text and a quick test seems to indicate it can be blank. You could then insert an image above the list instead of text it wouldn't be a button that displays the list, that would always be visible.

The link opens a page with a search option and once the results are returned, you can filter them for RoboHelp only. However, the information you need is in the locations I have covered above.

I am facing the same problem. I tried upgrading from RH 2019 classic to 2019, 2022 etc. , and they broke the Related Topics button, so for a long time, I have not been able to upgrade RH. The problem is that the project contains a very large number of topics with Related Topics button, which makes the task of manual conversion time consuming and error prone. Does anyone have a script to deal with this issue, so that the project upgrade will replace related topics with a similar popup menu, instead of the list I get when I try the upgrades. Adobe support said they do not have a solution to this "feature" yet! Feature??? Related Topics is a basic built-in function in RH 2019 Classic, and their upgrade process is incomplete. Anyway, if someone has a script to solve this problem, please let me know.

You say the Related Topics button is broken. In what way?

In Classic they appeared like this.

In 2022.4 they will look like this in author view.

In the output or preview they will look like this.

Is that not what you are seeing or is the issue the links don't work?

Using 2019 classic, Related Topic output show in a popup (dropdown) menu to select the related topic from. When I tried to upgrade the project in 2019 reimagined and 2020, the results were as you show in the third image, a long list hogging the page, instead of being a single button to select from.

Are your Related Topics at the beginning of the page? Usually, they would be found at the end of a page.

Sorry for the late reply. I kind off gave up on the subject. Yes, they are at the top of the page. NOw I am thinking maybe an ExtendedScript may do the job, or using RegEx. Not skilled in either.

@Jamil29463960jwf2 That is not broken. That is how it is designed in the new UI. Whether you like it or not is another matter. 🙂

I don't think anyone else has held off of upgrading because of that, at least not that I have seen post about it.

Not ideal but you can copy the new related topics into a dropdown.

It is a fairly large project. Copying manually is not an option right now, so I have to hold off on an upgrade. Maybe I will get a chance to ask someone to create a script that goes thru all the topics and automatically convert Related Topic to a popup menu.

Beyond my skills to change that to the old appearance using extendscript or a regular expression. It's not something that Support would help with so it's either one of your developers or live with the new way of doing it. Maybe not so bad if at the bottom of the page?
