Cannot build PDFs in RH 2022.3.93

Hi

I cannot build PDFs from RH 2022.3.93 - the error message is below.

This occurs regardless of the project or PDF output preset. I have tried installing and reinstalling Adobe Acrobat Pro, but I have had no luck.

Any help would be fantastic as I am in my deliverable generation for our latest software release.

Thanks M

It turns out that my Java 8 installation had been removed. I reinstalled it, and I can now generate PDFs. I appreciate your help.

Update 4 is available but I don't think anything in it will affect this issue.

I have never seen or heard of this message before so this is trial and error. Try the supplied About RoboHelp project to see if you get the same error. That is a known project that should not throw that error. If it does, then something is wrong with your installation or environment.

  • Is RoboHelp installed to the default directory on your C Drive?
  • See the Before You Start section here. RH2022 PDF Output (grainge.org) I don't think it is related but let's rule it out.
  • Are you generating to the same drive?
  • Is there any source control involved?

Where do I find the About RoboHelp project?

RH is installed to the default location

I am generating to the same drive

I use Git/VS 2019 for source control

I created a dummy project and got the same error so I doubt it is source control related

Why not source control related? I assume the new project is not in source control.

RoboHelp creates two copies of the samples on installation.

  • The copy to use is put in My RoboHelp Projects in the Documents folder that Windows creates in your profile.
  • Another copy goes into Program Files and should never be run from there as Windows will block some of the functionality.  The idea of the copy in Program Files is that it is a clean back up if you need to replace the copy in Documents.

The sample project should be in your My Documents\My Robohelp Projects folder; if it doesn't exist there, you can copy it from the installed location in your c:\program files\ location (don't try running it from there - Windows generally won't let you because of security).

Ok, then something in your install or environment is messed up. What changed? Did IT roll out some new security policy or did you get a Windows update?

Was this working before and now suddenly it doesn't? If so, what's changed? If it's never worked, then I suspect something is borked in your install.

Aha - always look at IT as the culprits! lol
It's when it was working before & suddenly stops working that the "what changed?" flags go up.
