Controlling right-click menu in task bar

QA have raised a bug for the CHMs that I've created using RoboHelp 7.

When you have a CHM open, you can right-click on the CHM in the task bar and display a context menu.  This includes the option "Jump to URL".  When you click on this a Jump to URL dialog is opened, allowing you to enter a URL to jump to.  If you enter a valid web URL then the CHM is redisplayed with a 'This application cannot display this page" message for the topic.

What we really want to do is to remove this option from the context menu, but nothing that I've tried has had any impact on it.  I've looked through this forum and can find a few related questions but none of them have an answer.

If anyone has any ideas on this, then I'd be very grateful as I currently have no way to 'fix' this bug in the Help files that I generate.

That's interesting but I'm not sure that it will fix the problem that QA have with the CHMs. If I change my registry settings to fix this issue on my PC, then presumably this will not have any impact on the behaviour on other users PCs.  I need to change the CHM so that it behaves correctly wherever it's installed.  From your information it sounds as if this may not be possible.

I dare say the install could make a registry change on each end user's PC but then every CHM on that PC would behave the same. There is also the sensitive area of whether end users would like an application install changing user registries. I wonder whether the fact that a valid URL doesn't display is related to the various Microsoft security patches that have been released in recent years. Either way, I am not aware of any other solutions. Maybe go back to your QA team and suggest they find some REAL bugs .

Clearly it's not acceptable to make this change to users' PCs, so you're right - I'll go back to the QA team and tell them that this cannot be fixed for Help in the CHM format.  They didn't raise it as a high-level bug, just something that ought to be fixed if it could.

In addition to what has been discussed here, I'm seeing no reference to what is a very sticky point in my own opinion. Note that the link Colum pointed you to also says that if you were to make that change, the Run command would also be removed from the Windows start menu. What isn't clear is if it also inhibits the abilty to press the Windows key and press R to evoke the Run dialog.

Certainly something you wouldn't want to inflict on your users willy nilly!

Personally, I use the Run command all the time. I'd be really ticked if installing some software caused it to break!
