Conversion from Fm to Rh10 with references to a PDF with page number

Explorer ,
Jul 31, 2013 Jul 31, 2013

I have a FM document with images that are references to a PDF with page number. After I do the conversion, using just the default settings/mappings, I get a Rh document with the first image being duplicated across the entire document where the other images should have been.

What do I need to do to get the correct images converted?

The Class Author template that we are using created duplicate IDs. The IDs have not been causing any other issues other than with the conversion. The fix has been applied to the template so all works now.

Thanks,

Are each of the images in the FM doc in an anchored frame? What are your Conversion Settings for images in RH set to?

Yes, they are in an anchored frame. I use the default settings for the conversion.

Try the "Do Not Regenerate" setting & see if it has any impact. Are your images imported by reference in your FM doc? Do they all have unique file names?

Careful with the Do Not Regenerate option...

If you have embedded images (like the eleventy-six thousand images in my Fm book...) the images are given new names upon processing. Choosing "Do Not Generate" caused much gnashing of teeth during the EPUB production of the book!

The resulting file had images in the wrong position, seemingly at random!

The images are imported by references to a PDF document with page number. Basically, each page in the PDF file is converted imported as an image to the Fm document.

Aha – that may be the problem – each image would reference the same document name (but look different because of pointing to different pages). I suspect you’ll have to either copy the PDF multiple times & throw away all the pages you don’t want to see and then save it with a unique filename OR embed the image in the FM doc (not imported by reference).

So I played around with a few courses, and found a course that was able to generate all the images correctly for Unit 1, but it had the same problem for Unit 2 and Unit 3. Here are the Distiller screenshots showing the importing process from FM -> RH.

You can see how the images for Unit 1 goes over correctly, whereas the other images were all duplicates. Keep in mind that I did this  as one conversion, off of a single book, so whatever settings I had used, works for Unit 1, but not the others.

As far as I can tell, there are no differences from the FM documents between Unit 1 and the others.

Unit 1, Unit 2, and Unit 3 (respectively)

Yes, it looks like my earlier post related to this.

Test by splitting a small PDF to separate files and importing by ref.

If that works properly, then it's the files copied into Fm doc (not imported by ref) that's causing your problem.

OK, Thanks Matt -- I'll give that a test.

However, this does not explain why import by ref works for Unit 1 and not the others, when all 3 units had images imported by ref.

Breaking up the PDF into separate files and then importing them did not work. The process seems to break either right before or during the Distiller process.
