Copy a Glossary Between Projects

New Here ,
Aug 04, 2009 Aug 04, 2009

I am developing my project in RH 8 and am having another person create a Glossary in another project that we, ultimately, will share.  I cannot remember the extension and or name of the Glossary files and then, how to 'swap' or share the glossary files between projects.

Hi there

The file bears a .GLO extension. You may copy from one project to another or you may open the existing Glossary and right-click. You will be offered a choice to import a glossary.

You might want to check out this thread for the file layout of the .GLO file:

Hi Jeff

Just curious here, why would the file layout be of any importance here?

Cheers... Rick

I thought if you're going to be importing one into RH, you might want to know how it needs to look?

Hi again

You wouldn't need that information to use either of the methods I proposed. Note that I never proposed editing the file directly.

  1. Copy it from where it is to where you need it and rename it in the new location (No edit needed)
  2. Use RoboHelp's own UI to import it (No edit needed)

That's why I was confuzzled.

I just copied the .glo file from the source RoboHelp project to my master RoboHelp project source files in Windows Explorer. I kept the name the same as I wanted to overwrite what I started to build.

This worked for me as I have not attached any glossary definitions to text in my files and had nothing to "protect".

I cound not import the glossary file because of a variety of sharing issues (shared network drives, etc.)

Thanks for your quick response Rick.  I applied your information awhile ago and have not had a chance - until now - to let you know.

Cindy
