Greetings,
Has anyone found a way to decrease the width of the search box when setting up your skin? I'm working with the Orange skin.
Best wishes to all for a happy new year.
The background here is that when responsive help came in users were asking how to make all sorts of changes. They required behind the scenes fixes that then got lost whenever there was an update. When frameless came along the editor was configured to allow all sorts of changes. The price was the complexity.
I suspect that in time you will find it easier to locate the options you need and maybe Adobe can change things so that there are standard and advanced modes.

Which search box? There are search boxes on the Home Page and on Topic pages.
In the skin Editor there are tabs for both the Home page and Topic pages. See the Search options there.

I've been trying to change the width of the search bar for the Topic Page. Decreasing the width for each of the following settings didn't affect the width of the field where the user enters search terms :
Topic Page > Search Box > search > Layout > Width
Topic Page > Search Box > searchbar > Layout > Width
I'd like to decrease the width because when the search bar is activated, it hides the full title in the top header bar. I also tried changing the display settings for the title (Header > Title > Layout > Display; currently the Display setting is flex) but didn't find a way to make that work either.

A screenshot would help.

Thank you,
Here are three screen shots.
The title isn't displayed when the search bar is activated:

The area with your title is replaced by a different area that contains the search box. The search is not overlaying the title, the whole area changes. Go to RoboHelp Tour Introduction (grainge.org) and you will see it's the panel that changes rather than the search box sitting on top of the title.
That's the way it is meant to work.

Ah yes, thank you--I see from your site that it does the same thing. I imagine that issue would be very low on the enhancement request list (if it is possible to change that aspect of the design), and probably only a few, if any, would have a preference for a change. RoboHelp 2020 is quite powerful, but I'm finding the adjustment of a skin to be the opposite of straightforward. The preview helps some of the time but doesn't always highlight what a setting is linked to, sometimes the descriptions are cryptic, etc. If Adobe RH ever has an opportunity for arranging discussion of user experience of the functionality, that would be nice. Although I suppose skin set up, while somewhat painful, may not be a focus because it tends to be infrequent.

Peter,
Thanks for taking the time to explain the background. It does help to know why the design is the way it is. An option for a limited number of settings for a basic layout or anything to streamline the number of configurations sounds good to me.
