Duplication of images when generating an output (Responsive HTML)

Hi,

I have come across an issue that occurs when using the Thumbnail option from the Image Content Properties view.

If I select this option for an image (which I have done for pretty much all the images in my project), on selecting the Generate Preset option from the Output Presets view (Responsive HTML), all of the images that have thumbnail attributed, are duplicated in the Assets > Images folder. This occurs every time I generate the output, resulting in multiple iterations of the same image, which increase the file size of that folder significantly (see attached).

It seems that RoboHelp only uses the latest iteration of the image it has generated for the output.

The log file displays a warning – Failed to copy…. (see attached).

Has anybody else had this issue?

Hmm...the next thing I would try is to see if it happens in the sample project - if it does the duplication there, then it's probably a bug. You may want to see if it's already been reported in the Tracker (https://tracker.adobe.com/)

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your response...
With regards to the Thumbnail Options, I did indeed use the first option as depicted in your image.

However, just as a sanity check, I removed the thumbnail attribute from all the applicable images in my project. I then saved the project as normal and re-generated. The issue resolved, that is, I did not get repeat iterations of the same image in the images folder. I then checked the Log files, and all was well... the project generated without any issues and

Can you start with your exact version of RH? This may have already been an issue that 's been fixed. The only other thing I noticed is that your paths seem extremely long.

Hi Jeff,

The version I am using is 2022.3.93...

Yes the path is long due to the company directory structure, however this has not been an issue with other projects where I have not used thumbnails!

Had another thought - have you tried generating to a completely new folder location? Maybe your rights to the spot where you have been generating isn't allowing you to delete the contents before adding new content.

Yes I have tried that Jeff...
I do think that it has something to do with using thumbnails. For instance, if I remove the thumbnail attribute from the images or images, then I don't get the repetive iteration in the images folder. Thank you anyway!!

Note the thumbnail settings.

One creates smaller versions of the images, other does not. The first may give better thumbnails.

"Failed to copy" is a different thing. It is telling you a link in your project is pointing to something on your hard drive and, of course, that will break for the end user. You may say it is pointing to a filename in your project but somewhere there is a link that is pointing to the same filename but not the one in your project.

Use Find and Replace set to search the source and search only on part of the path, not the whole path reported. In the source it will be a relative path but in the report it will be the absolute path.
