FLASHHELP Generation

Guest
Apr 28, 2006 Apr 28, 2006
I am trying to generate a Flashhelp single source file. I know how to generate the files and set the default topic and skin. In the select output folder and start page i have created the initial *.htm page i want. But after i click finish and the generation is complete i get a successful window appear saying the *.htm file has be generated. I can click Done or Preview but the file has not been created. Even if i look in C:\Program Files\RoboHelp Office\RoboHTML\name of folder\!SSL!\FlashHelp\name of file there is no *.htm file created, but every other file is.

Can any help explain why the initial *.htm page has not been created? I believe this file would link the Skin to the htm files created as that is the only thing missing from my htm pages.

Thanks Anitauk

Welcome to the forum. How're ya doin?

The "*" symbol, a star, is a 'wildcard' symbol. That means, in this case, whatever the current help file project name is. Its useful in a search, or on the DOS command line. Remember DOS? Few do.

Anyway, you can launch the FlashHelp from the .htm file that starts with your project name. For example:

RoboHtml provides a sample project called 'Easy International Cuisine'; it uses the project file, 'Easy_International_Cuisine.xpj', and the set of output Flashelp files it generates is launched with 'Easy_International_Cuisine.htm'.

Does this work for you?

HI Roger

I think you have miss ready my question. I put a * in this question to replace the actual name of the default page i created using the RoboHelp FlashHelp generation button because that work i am doing. I know what i wildcard is.

The question i asked was - why when after generating the flash help file the default page is not created? example, trainingguide.htm. All other files are created on output expect the main htm file, the one that links the skin to the htm pages.

I am creating a trainingguide for some software at work and the only generated help guide that outputs correctly is the trainingguide.chm (HtmlHelp). Flashhelp, webpro do not create the main file i need to start the guide. Even thought robohelp says successfully created the file. I can click Done or Preview but the file has not been created.

This is very fustrating because i know how to use robohelp and just dont understand why this file to start these version does not get created.

Regards

Anita

Ah, that is odd. I could only find one knowledgebase article, and it may not even apply;

long URL to knowledgebase article

If that doesn't help, a quick, reinstall of RH might solve the problem. It won't touch any project files.

Anita,
This problem sounds similar to what I was experiencing last week. It turns out there was a permissions problem on my PC. My windows user profile did not have Admin priviledges on my PC. Once my priviledges were updated, everything worked as it used to. Maybe give this a try? Another option is to unistall then re-install RoboHelp, but ensure that the person who installs the software is the person who will be using it. This is a known characteristic of RoboHelp.
Best of luck,
Fred

Thanks for all your help, the problem did turn out to be admin permissions on the computer. The IT department changed them .

Everything works fine now.
