FlashHelp Output Problems

Guest

Hello!

I have Windows Vista and RoboHelp HTML. I am trying to generate FlashHelp output in RH8. I chose FlashHelp as my primary layout, generate it, and then view it. When I view the result, it opens in Internet Explorer 7 with a blank page. I view the source on the page, and it only has the HTML tags. I can generate from Web Help output just fine. I have tried restarting my computer and the program. I have also done a full system scan for viruses. The project name is fine. Javascript is enabled on my browser. I can view other FlashHelp content, but not the one I created.

Do you know what could be causing this problem?

I am new to the Adobe programs.

I'm having the same problem, have gone to the links you referenced, and still cannot find a solution. Pretty much every file mentioned as needed editing in the output folder doesn't exist in my FlashHelp output folder. Is this a known bug of some sort?

When I attempt to view my just-compiled FlashHelp Help (either by responding to the prompt at the end of the compile OR by clicking the Display Primary Layout button on the RH toolbar), I get a blank Internet Explorer window with an error symbol in the corner. No nav pane, no content pane. And it's intermittent. Sometimes I get correctly displayed Help, and sometimes not. Restarting RoboHelp almost ALWAYS corrects this problem.

Another workaround I've used is to browse from the blank page to another Web location (first link on my Favorites list, for example), then click Back. The generated FlashHelp then refreshes and appears correctly. But this workaround doesn't always work.

I'm running:

RoboHelp V7.03.001

Internet Explorer 8

This FlashHelp will be distributed with an application to end users who will access it via IE on their local systems. Will they run into this same problem or is it limited to RoboHelp's ability (or lack thereof) to open the generated Help file?

Any help appreciated. It seems to be happening more and more and is becoming increasingly frustrating...

Hi KC

Is this on a Vista system? I ask because I've been working with Vista a bit lately and it seems that Vista has this quirk of not showing me files until I coax it to refresh the window displaying the files. So this makes me wonder if it's Vista playing games with RoboHelp as well. It seems reasonable to conclude that if I'm not able to see files that are there, RoboHelp may not be able to either.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks for responding, Rick. Good theory, but no, I'm not running RH7 on Vista. I'm using Windows XP Professional with all the various Windows updates. You may be on to something though, because this unable-to-view-the-output thing wasn't always the case with this Help project. I've been working on this project for some time (over a year) and I don't recall this happening in the beginning. So it's very possible that it got introduced by some Windows update or Internet Explorer upgrade/update. I'm SURE it was happening before I upgraded IE to V8. However, I'm not absolutely sure if it was happening before I upgraded to IE V7, which I did quite late in the game. I held off on that upgrade for a very long time.

I even wondered for a while if my RH compiler was corrupt of something. A developer on my team suggested I go to another site then Back to get the Help to display. But this morning, I tried that twice, and it didn't work. So I re-launched the Help via the View Primary Layout button, which sometimes fixes the problem (i.e., displays a normal, correct Help file) but that didn't work either. I ended up having to exit and restart RH. Then I was able to view the Help as normal. (Can't remember if I regenerated it after the restart, but I'm pretty sure I did.)
