FlashHelp Security Settings

New Here ,
Aug 09, 2007 Aug 09, 2007
We’re linking a Help file (FlashHelp version) to our application, but we continue to have the Flash Player Security screen display when a user initially opens the Help file. Once the user adjusts these settings, the Help file displays as we’d like it to do.

To date I've done the following to alleviate the issue:
1) Selected my default topic on the FlashHelp Options screen and selected the Auto-Manage Flash Security and Add Mark of the Web options.
2) Regenerated the files and linked to the application again. Still the Flash Player Security screen displays when initially
opening the Help file.

Is there some other setting in RoboHelp that I need to adjust? Or something else we can do programmatically on our end to adjust the settings automatically so the end-user doesn’t see this message?

Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.

Hello V Jordan,

Welcome to the forum.

I believe the Flash security settings are outside of RH. Check this link for details.

Hope this helps,

Brian

Correct, I understand that you can go to that web page and select Always Allow. I've done that on my workstation. What we're trying to avoid is having to go through that process with every workstation that our application/FlashHelp is installed on nationwide.
Is there any kind of script or something else programmatically that can be done to avoid this for every use that opens the Help file?

Hi V Jordan

While FlashHelp may certainly be installed on the local PC and work from there, the original intent was to place it up on a server and access from a central location. Once you access it from a server location, the issues you are facing perform a nifty disappearing act.

Is there any chance you might wish to reconsider FlashHelp locally installed and opt instead for server deployment? If not, .CHM is usually the better choice for a locally installed system.

Just a thought... Rick

Hi Rick,
When you're referencing placing it on a server, are you talking using RoboServer to do that?

If so, we're still trying to figure out issues we're having with RoboServer too. Which is one of the reasons I opted for the locally installed workaround.

Perhaps we can consider the central location in the future, but for now it sounds like there's not any other workaround for this.

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi again

Unfortunately there is a lot of confusion surrounding the need for the RoboHelp Server component. I tried to dispell some of this back in August, 2005 at this link.

The short answer is that you may place WebHelp and FlashHelp output files on pretty much any old server (no RoboHelp Server in the picture at all) and it will work. What the server component does is to provide automatic merging and ability to search even .PDF or .DOC files.

Cheers... Rick

I'll relay this on to my development team. Thanks so much for the information and your time to explain.
