Formatting & editing Printed Documentation

New Here ,
Jul 20, 2009 Jul 20, 2009

Using RoboHelp7 for Word, Word 2007 on Windows XP system...

Printed Documentation was generated successfully and looks pretty close to what we want (Style mapping.dot was used).  Doc was opened, edited & formatted, saved and then closed - BUT when we reopen the doc all the changes are gone??? Is there some trick to formatting & editing the doc.? According to info in Help - should be able to edit & format  doc in Word - but formatting is not retained once doc is closed, even though it was 'saved'..??

Any help would be appreciated, since we need to produce Printed Documentation for 9 projects currently in RoboHelp....

I have not seen that or seen it reported but I have a hunch as to what could cause it.

When you generate the document, go to Word Templates and Add Ins and see if Automatically Updates Styles is checked. If it is, that what I am guessing is the cause so turn it off and then reopen the document.

Let us know if that fixes it.

Peter

Thank you for your quick response...

We checked Word Templates & Add Ins they are NOT tagged "Automatically Update Styles".  In Printed Documentation No matter what changes or edits are done, document reverts back to the way it was....even though 'Save' was done before closing doc.

Usually when 'Save' is done -"Word is saving document....appears with a field that indicates progress of save at bottom of screen. We noticed the field remains grey & there's no indication 'save' is being done?

We are at a loss, because 'save' works in other documents & this is only happening with Printed Documentation thru RoboHelp7..

I've just tumbled what this might be. Are we talking about changes to existing topics or new topics not appearing?

BTW. I have edited your last post to remove the email address. Never include that on any forum, unless you are looking for a new supplier of questionable medication!

Thanks for removing emaill address - question? can my info w/company info & emaill (text ) be removed from the bottom of my posting?

We figured out the formatting & editing issues for the Documentation by adding Developer tab to menu.  Before formatting & editing we uncheck the 'autommatically update....' check box for the template being used and every thing is saved.

Hi,

You can do that yourself. Login to the forum and click Edit to the right bottom of your post.

That option is removed once someone else posts to the thread. Then only moderators can edit posts.

I have made the change requested.
