FrameStyles Imported to RH7

Does any one know how RH7 determines what styles from the FM8 source to import?

It seems to do this haphazardly. Even after I create the styles with the same name in RH7 as the styles is in FM8, after I import RH7 only imports some of the FM8 styles.

Why is this?

Only the paragraph tags in FrameMaker that have content (text or even just an empty space) show up for mapping in RoboHelp.

Fix:
In your FrameMaker source files:
For each paragraph tag that is missing, add an empty space once, in any file of the project.

Here's something else I've found:
If you have FM paragraph tags that only differ by upper or lower case, only one of them will show up in RoboHelp.
For instance:
"LA1 Alpha list first"
"la1 alpha list first"
Only one of these paragraph tags will appear in RoboHelp for mapping.

As you can see, I found that your answer works. Thanks much for that.

I've also experienced the issue that you describe regarding the u/l/c paragraph tags. I put this down to a similar bug in FM8 that I discovered when trying to number graphics. There I had to create a new tag altogether.

Your answer also explains a somewhat related issue:

There are sometimes miscellaneous styles that RH7 brings in from FM8, i.e., the ones with FM_ at the beginning. Your comments lead me to understand that they will always appear in the RH7 style drop-down list as long as they exist in the FM8 paragraph AND character style catalogs for specific documents. To get rid of them, you must delete them from the FM8 style catalog those styles that you don't want to appear in the RH7 integration project.
