Generate Primary Layout (WinHelp 2000)

Guest

Using RoboHelp 6.0, i try to generate my primary layout, it starts to compile but then says that the compilation failed. I press view errors and nothing comes up.

I only used the program last Monday and it worked fine. I added a new help topic and saved it as per usual and when i tried to generate the primary layout it fails. Anyone know why?

I am facing similar problem with my Robohelp file. I had been working with this Winhelp 4 document for a while, as it suddedly started to give error messages everytime I trie to compile the file. The error messages I have faced are: "unexpected error while trying to compile the file”, ”The winhelpwizard ancountered unexpected error when attempting to generate winhelp” and ”word error 5003, if this alarm appears repeatidly contact macromedia”. The size of the .rtf document is over 100 mb by now, and I thought these alarms were because of insufficient memory capacity. This was proved wrong when I tried to compile the file with more powerful computer: The result was similar!

Has anyone got any idea why this is happening and what to do, to fix it!?!?

Welcome to the forum.

I no longer use RH for Word but a file that size would have alarmed me. I would split it into a number of documents.

Are you generating with images displayed? If so, change the images to the code view and try again.

After that I would try taking a copy of the project and deleting the RTF from the copy. RH will create a new one when you open the copy and that was a common way of fixing issues.

Thanks for your interest Peter! I am really a newbie with this Robohelp, but forced to use it creating help's for our supervisor softwares. Can you describe me how to switch the pictures into code view?

By the way, nice homepages! I will be reading them a lot!

It's on the RH menu in Word.

I have never seen it make any difference. Maybe in RH for Word you have to get the images size right first? Experiment. Insert a new image of anything. Resize it and then generate, after switching to code of course.

It usded to be good practice to size the pic before putting it into the Image Folder.

(This was up to RHX5. With 6 and 7 there may well be special registry settings, incense or mystic incantations required...)

Thanks Brian. That sort of confirms my suspicion that someone had resized in Word and then the true code was just generating the image at full size.
