Generating Printed Documents

Explorer ,
Jun 01, 2006 Jun 01, 2006
Hello, I have 2 questions about generating printed doc:

1 - when I generate a .doc file the total of pages in the screen is not the same as in the printed document . I have only the odd pages printed. The even ones are not even shown on the screen but they are counted in the total of pages.

2 - when trying to do a .pdf file the result is a .doc and in the screen I can see the even pages (in blank).

I don't see anything wrong in my selections when generating the printed documents but something is not working.

Thanks for any hint you can give me.

Beatriz.

This is the correct forum for this post but please do not cross post. Please edit your other post to indicate it is a duplicate of this post.

Are you starting topics on odd pages and there is nothing to print on the even pages? Depending on the view in Word I think it can hide the blank pages but nevertheless print them. Does what you see on screen contain everything it should and does what you print contain everything?

Not sure what you mean by "when trying to do a pdf file the result is a doc.

Please clarify the problem as I am not sure I am following it.

Thanks Peter.
My document goes from page 1 to 5. In the screen I have 13 pages, but I can only see 5 numbered 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. Pages 2, 4, 6 and 8 don't appear neither in the screen nor in paper. The printed document has everything it should but the page numbers are not consecutives
When I try to do a .pdf, the document compiles correct but when trying to see the pdf nothing happened and in the folder I have the .doc file instead of a pdf file. And this doc file has all the pages 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 with text and 2, 4, 6, 8 in blank.
thanks again!.

I'll give this some thought tomorrow. Late here and it's been a long long day.

The PDF issue I've come across myself occasionally (not all the time) when I use the RoboPDF to generate PDF output from the Word document. If you save the PDF file and then re-open it from explorer, the content is actually there (as long as there was content in the Word document).

With the page numbering, it sounds like section breaks have been inserted and each section is being told to start on an odd page. Just a couple of questions:

Do each of your topics start on a new page?

Also, do any of the topics extend over more than one page?

Lastly, have you added any topics in the Section Layout screen of the Printed Documentation wizard?

Regards

Sorry, I misread what you were saying about the PDF side of things.

I've quote often printed to PDF using the RoboPDF toolbar and the PDF viewer is blank when the process is finished - as if it hasn't really converted the file at all. However if you save the 'empty PDF' and open it from explorer the content is all there. Ho, ho, ho - it's magic!!

Regards

It looks like Kathy has sorted your problems. If not, this must be a small project so you can zip it up and send it to me so that I can see your settings and exactly the problem you are getting.

thank you Kathy and Peter. I am going to try your suggestions.
My first try to generate a printed document was with the example in the tutorial, I wanted to try with a simple document. Each topic begins in a new page, none of them extends more than one page and I didn't add any new section.
But with all these hints I have plenty to try.
thank you very much,

Beatriz.
