Help, please!

New Here ,
Apr 07, 2009 Apr 07, 2009

I have invested many hours on an html-help file. Tried to open it (an .xpj file) this morning and I get the message

Open project was cancelled or the application was unable to load database for "C:\Program Files\RoboHelp Office\Vision  Viewer Help\Vision Viewer Help.cpd.  I'm not trying to open a cpd file (whatever that is).

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi there

Try using Windows Explorer to locate the ProjectName.CPD file and delete it. Then retry opening your project using the .XPJ.

The .CPD is a Cache Project Database file and will be re-created if RoboHelp can't find it when you try and open the project.

Where is your project located? Local PC or on a LAN? If you say it's on a LAN, you really need to move it to your Local PC and only ever work on it from there.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks!

Now I'm unable to erase the cpd files. Says to check if it's protected.

Hi again

Where exactly is your project located? Does RoboHelp by chance still have the project open? Have you tried restarting the PC?

Cheers... Rick

Hi again

You might wish to try moving your project to a different location. Don't sweat this as it is a simple and straightforward process.

I would recommend creating a folder off C: named "Projects". Then copy the folder from where it is to this folder. Once finished you should end up with a path that looks like this:

C:\Projects\Vision Viewer Help

Once you do this try opening the project again and see how it goes.

Cheers... Rick

Well, it won't let me copy it.

Hi again

By chance are you using Windows Vista?

It seems odd to me that even after a PC restart things aren't working. But with Vista's "Big Brother" approach to PC activity, I'm wondering about the choice of location for the project. I'm wondering if you are using it and it's being a bit like an overprotectve parent when you fiddle about with things in the Program Files folder.

Cheers... Rick

Up and running!!

Apparently, during a migration to a new domain (Would have been nice had they told me about it) I lost my admin rights. Having restored those, I was able to erase the cpd files and open my xpj project.

Thanks for your help
