HHC5008 Error when generating full-text search data

New Here ,
May 22, 2008 May 22, 2008
I've created a small new RoboHelp HTMLHelp project with 1 book with 2 topics; created the index keywords via the smart index wizards but the compiled CHM gives me the TOC/Index/Search tabs but the Search tabs is completely empty (the Index tab is filled and works perfect)

During compilation I see the following error:

Generating full-text search data...
HHC5008: Error:
An unknown error occurred while creating the index.

PS: I've first had the problem about the itcc.dll that was not registered but using the regsrv32 command this is successful now

searching the web gives me nothing ...

That all looks good. Do other HTML Help projects compile without error on your machine? This may help to show whether this one project is at fault or whether there is a problem with the compiler components on the machine.

If you feel comfortable doing so, please email me the broken .chm file so that I can take a closer look. You can contact me by clicking my user name at the left.

Welcome to our community, Gunter

You do realize that the Search tab should be empty upon initial viewing, right? And nothing shows there until you search for something.

Cheers... Rick

Ofcourse 😉 I've entered some search texts (for example "topic" when a topic title is called "new topic" etc) but without any search results.

Creating a Robohelp WebHelp (which uses another compiler I assume) gives me search results using the same search texts

Hi, Gunter,

This is the description of error HHC5008 in the KeyTools Error Message Reference ( http://www.workwrite.com/helpthink/welcome.htm):

quote:

HHC5008: An unknown error occured while creating the index.

Problem: A problem occurred while creating a binary index.

Result: The .chm file is corrupt and cannot be used.

Solution: If you don't have a specific reason for using a binary index, you can turn it off to see if the .chm file compiles correctly. You should also check to be certain you have sufficient disk space on the drive where the .chm file is being created.
As a first step, maybe run MJ's Help Diagnostics to ensure that all the required compiler components are properly installed.

I've unchecked the "binary index" but without any success

I've also run the diag tool (see results below); I've manually registered hhctrl.ocx, itss.dll, itircl.dll but also htmlhelp compilation without any success. It also gives the error "File not found: C:\Program Files\itcc.dll" but the itcc.dll file exists under C:\windows\system32 and ofcourse not under C:\program files

It's odd that MJ's Diagnostics cannot find the compiler ("HTML Help 1.x Workshop") components. Perhaps you could try reinstalling them by running the HTML Help Workshop setup program.

Hi there it seems you have helped with other HHC5008: Error: An unknown error occurred while creating the index, so I was hoping you could give me some assistance.

So far I have checked disk space (there's plenty), unchecked Binary index, deleted all bar one item in my index, checked all index links are correct, screamed at my PC, nothing has worked!

My index is there and works in the helpfile, but the search is empty, even when typing in a known index name. I had it working (at one stage) but not sure how I busted it, when it was working all the seraches come through as untitled (as I didn't have titles on my files. I now have, and the index has been edited to include those titles.

I have recreated a new CHM file, tried creating a new index (same error when compiling).

Any assistance would be fantastic!!!

Cheers

Hi, Keri, and welcome,

If you haven't already done so, can you try running MJ's Help Diagnostics, which is available from the address below? This will check that all the components that are required to compile and view HTML Help files are present and correctly registered on your machine.

http://helpware.net/downloads/index.htm#MJs

Do other HTML Help files on your machine exhibit the same problem, or is only one file affected?
