How do I backup using RoboHelp X5

Explorer ,
Nov 27, 2008 Nov 27, 2008
For those of you that might have been following my previous post, you may remember I accidentally deleted all my Topic files in a specific project. I DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN AGAIN.

I notice the FILE menu does not have a "Save As..." option. Can you tell me the best way to backup my project? Is it as simple as copying "C:\Program Files\RobotHelp Office\RobotHTML\" ?

Thanks,
Sam

It can be done that way but I would recommend zipping the folder and apply a filename such as YYMMDD_projectname_source, then placing that zip file on the network so that it gets backed up. The date is in that format so that it will be in chronological order over different years.

While you can copy across drives, we have seen issues with that, zipping is safer.

I repeat my previous warning that saving projects within Program Files is not good practice.

I am not on a network. The PC I use is a "stand-alone".

CD, external hard disk? Trust me, when that hard disk goes bang, you will discover backing up to the same disk is not clever.

Pete:

Just one more question and I think this will be answered.

Should I "zip" (backup) "C:\Program Files\RobotHelp Office\" or "C:\Program Files\RobotHelp Office\RobotHTML\" ?

Thanks,
Sam

Zip the folder that contains your project, the root of that is the one that has the CPD file. You certainly don't want to zip all that is in those folders.
