How do I install Adobe Air on a server?

Guest

I am using RH8 and Windows 7.

I am trying to make Browser Based Air files work on a server.

I was told that I need to install Adobe Air on the server. How do I do that.

IT made my pc into a server. I went to the Adobe Air download site and tried to install it on the server but it only let me install it on my pc. How do I install it on the server? Also, where on the server do I install it?

My pc is configured so the server is lovejoyp/WebTest. Do I install Adobe Air in a certain folder?

Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Pat

You are mixing the types of AIR help.

Locally installed AIR help requires the AIR runtime to be installed on the users PC.

Browser based AIR help does not require that and the runtime is not intended to be installed on a server.

This is all described in the AIR pages on my site. I think you need to read those again and maybe with your IT people.

I read the site and it was very helpful. I was told by Adobe support that I needed to install Adobe Air on the server. That's why I was confused.

I hate to say this but Adobe Support are wrong about needing the AIR runtime for browser based AIR help. Do you have an incident number? If so please send it to me via my site. It should not be published here.

Sorry.

What you need for browser-based AIR is the FlashPlayer runtime.

Hi,

Regarding Adobe AIR Help SSL Output,

  • In case of Adobe AIR application, (.air file), you need AIR Runtime installed on the client machine.
  • In case of Browser based Help, you need Flash player (browser plugin or Activex), installed on client Machine.

in no case you need AIR runtime or Flash player installed on Web Server.

Hope this clear all doubts.

Thanks

Thank you for the definitive, final word.

The reason I was trying to install Air on the server is because my Search function wasn't working and Adobe support said I had a small icon on the bottom left corner of the window (See attachment) that indicated there was a server problem, and if I fixed that by adding Air to the server Search would work. I am now back to square 1 and still haven't gotten the Search function to work.

Does anyone have any other ideas.

Thank you all, without this forum I would be lost.

It looks like you are back to the answer you have already been given in another thread, namely that the problem is with the server.
