How to make merged child topics display in the same window

I have a parent merge file and when I merge, the child topics display in a separate window when I click on them on the toc.

When I use a link, they display in the same window. Is there a way to make the child topics display in the same window when I click on the toc item?

If you launch your child project independently, and then click your toc entries, do the topics come up in the same frame or in a new window? If they come up in a new window, then you've found your problem.

No. My child projects come up in the same window.
