How upgrade Robohelp database from 5 to 8

New Here ,

We are using Robohelp 5 and just bought the upgrades to version 8. The Robohelp 5 database is on an old Windows 2000 Server. How do I move that database to the new server and upgrade it to v8? I have searched Adobe and the web for the answer to this but can't find it. I opened a ticket with Adobe but they have not responded yet so thought I would ask here in case anyone knows. Is there a document or section in a manual that explains this? I looked on the Adobe site for the Robohelp manual but could not find it.

And I should clarify that we are not using the "Robohelp Server" product, just Robohelp that runs on a PC, and then storing the database of documents on the server.

I am not sure what you mean by database. If you mean a backup, then that can be on a server but your project must be local.

Upgrading a project is as simple as first zipping up a copy of the project so that if anything goes wrong, you have a safety copy, then opening the project in the later version of RH.

Might be worthwhile first letting us know what you mean by database.

The documents are "checked in" to a database on the server (version control). I have a piece of RoboHelp installed on the server that allows this to be done. So my question is how do I upgrade this to version 8 and how do I move it to another server?

You threw me with the reference to not using RoboHelp Server which made me think there was no source control involved.

Hopefully if you indicate what source control product you are using, then maybe someone with knowledge of that can help.

The source control product is RoboHelp. RoboHelp comes with a piece you install on the server that manages the change control in the documents. I am

trying to understand how I move that to the new server and the new version. We did not buy the product called "RoboHelp Server" when we upgraded because I contacted Adobe and they said we did not need that, that we only needed to buy the upgrade for our 2 licenses of RoboHelp.

Sorry, confusion on my part. RoboHelp Server is a separate product for a different purpose.

I've emailed someone who should be able to help you install the server part of RoboSource Control.

Hi, mlouie

I am more familiar with installing RoboSource Control 3.1 from scratch rather than converting from an older version but I'll see if I can get you started.

First there are critical differences in the RoboSource Control version 2.3 which shipped more than five years ago with RH X5 vs. today's RSC 3.1 which ships with RH 8. To understand this better, read Matthew Ellison's Getting Started article on the Adobe Developer Network:

Here are several threads of authors who have made a similar switch and you might find these posts helpful:

I also asked Peter to move this thread to the Source Control sub-forum where it might get the attention of others who work with RSC more often.
