HTML code for the emdash character appearing in output

We just upgraded from RoboHelp 6 to RoboHelp 7.0.2. We develop WebHelp and HTML Help (CHM files).

Several of our topics include the emdash character. After generating the WebHelp and publishing it to our Apache web servers, we noticed that the HTML code for the emdash character (&emdash;) is appearing in help topics in place of the character. This is true when viewed in IE and Mozilla.

The CHM file for the same help project also shows the HTML code for the emdash character in all instances. This was viewed from my local system.

Note that the emdash character appears fine within the project and when the help files are viewed from the Windows filesystem.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

There was a problem like that in the WYSIWYG before 7.0.2 as described in Using RH7 on my site. However, that was local and the patch fixed it.

I had a completely different problem a while back but wonder if the solution might work. Speak to your web guys and suggest this.

Add the AddDefaultCharset utf-8 directive to either the Apache config or the site .htaccess file

It's a long shot. I don't know what other effects it might have on your server but the web guys should.
