Illustration issues in RH 10 after importing FM

Hi,

I am running into several problems with illustrations when I import a FM book into RH. I cannot find the answers on the internet, so I hope somebody on this forum can help me out.

I want to use RH to create apps from my FM books.

1. In FM, I have placed several .eps files by reference. When I import my .book into RH, all illustrations are converted to .jpeg. Some of these files have now [1. in the file itself......Where does it come from? I don't want a number in the illustration!

2. How do I adjust the frame size for illustrations so it will be kept after exporting to an app? It seems RH keeps the original anchored frame size from FM, which is too big for mobile devices.

3. How can I make an illustration 'zoomable'? I know that by using Ctrl + K, you can put the settings for this, but when I open the app on a mobile device, there is a lot of unneeded white space around the illustration. Also, the size of the illustration does not adjust to the screensize.....

Thanks in advance for any suggestion!

Kind regards,

Nathalie

Not sure if this relates to the bringing of content into RH from FM or how it gets shaped when you output it as Multi-screen HTML5 output.

1. The numbering is probably related to the mapping of FM tags to RH styles – check this out – you’ve probably got some auto numbering thing going on. As far as the EPS to JPEG issue – try creating a blank RH project and importing the EPS into it – how does it look then when you output it? Maybe RH doesn’t support EPS – I don’t do much with graphics in my content & what I do have is all .png format.

2. This sounds like an issue with HTML5, not the integration – again, try it straight in RH, and see if you can adjust the frame size there without having anything to do with FM.

3. Definitely an HTML5 issue – check in that forum for ideas.

Thanks Jeff for your answers.

Adjusting frame size directely in RH gives the same result, so I think you are right and I should check the HTML5 forum.

Nathalie

Hi Natalie,

2 things spring to mind:

  1. You can create Object Styles to control handling of the graphics via an import template in the Rh conversion settings.
  2. You can create specific graphics for the online help and control usage via Conditional Text in Fm.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for your answers.

1. Can you let me know where I can define Object Styles? I tried importing a FM template, but then numbering for all other chapters is overwritten.....

2. I do not want to create new illustrations for online output, because then the whole idea of Single source publishing disappears.....

I'll continue my search!

Kind regards,

Nathalie

Hi Nathalie, the short answer is: Look under the Graphics menu.

You can learn about object styles in the FrameMaker 11 Reviewer's Guide, posted here: http://mattrsullivan.com/2013/10/fm11rg/ or in my Fm11 book available at http://framemaker.mattrsullivan.com
