Import .docx menu document and generate a help menu based on the .docx

Hi, Peter,

 

I'm trying to import .docx menu document and generate a help menu based on the .docx.

 

The import process: 

I chose the following:

Convert references to hperlinks

Convert table of contents

Convert index

 

Then used webhelp to CHM to generate CHM file.

Although it has the table of contents and hypger link, the index and search function don't work.

 

Would you please help me out ?

You need to have JavaScript enabled for the CHM to operate - what happens when you say "Yes" to the script error?

If I click yes when search error appears, nothing seems affects.  Just click search again.

 

How to enable  JavaScript  in Robohelp?

 

Also, I don't see the search result as in the example. In my search result, it has only one on the left pane, many on the right.  I was expecting as the example search result.

I would assume what I'm doing is very popular and typical usage of RoboHelp to generate help menu for a software application.

There should be demo, typical procedure to set the parameters up, run it smoothly.

How could it be so frastrated and not straight forward?

It is, but CHMs are really old technology - most help is now being created as HTML5 responsive help.

I suggest that if you are going to a new format then Frameless would be a better option as that is where Adobe's focus will be. Whatever you change to though will mean the developers have to change the calls so you must liaise with them first. Calling help is described on my site.

 

First though I think you need to get what you have working. It looks as if you have generated one of the sample projects and that is working. Is that the case?

 

It should not be this frustrating but the thread has questioned your version, IT have told you that 2019.0.10 is the latest and that is incorrect. It would help if you got IT back and pointed them to Help > Check for Updates or the link that Jeff gave you. Then tell us that you have 2019.0.14 installed. We seem to be going around in circles in this thread. Let's take it one step at a time.

 

Once you are on 2019.0.14, then we know you are up to date and should be able to resolve any remaining issues.

 

Let us get your project generating some webhelp that works from Classic first. Then we can look at getting the converter script working so that your developers have the type of help they are expecting.

 

Once you are over that hurdle, then is the time to consider using the new version of RoboHelp and generating frameless outputs. Until what you have is mastered, you really don't want to be changing the type of help and the new version of RoboHelp that is a learning curve in itself.

 

So please first get on to 2019.0.14 and then generate webhelp from your own project. When that is done, please come back here with the results.

My IT person is working on to get Adobe creative cloud for me to have updated version automatically.

I agree with Peter to work on my current .chm file since my developer won't change the software at this time of software delivery.

The sample project seemed working.

Where is the phone support number? Where is your site Peter?

Peter's site is grainge.org - there is no Adobe support phone number (that I know of) for RH - you just e-mail them or use their chat.

I don't believe you need to have Creative Cloud access to update your copy of RH - just have your IT download the installer from the location I gave you before.

Creative Cloud is nothing to do with RoboHelp and will not help you in any way whatsoever. They need to do what you have already been told, get you on 2019.0.14.

What we need to do is get your webhelp working first as we have already pointed out. Generate that and see if the search and index work there. Until you post back saying that is done, sorry but there's no more I can do.

Good. If that works, so should your webhelp and once we get there, maybe we can resolve the original question. This thread is now seven pages long and we are no further forward. Please do as above.

I'm not Jeff but let me respond.

That makes no sense. Once RoboHelp is installed with the key, the updater simply requires someone with admin rights. The only account needed is the user's (you) Adobe ID. However, let that pass for now until we hit problems. Then I would begin to wonder if there is an issue with the setup.

It supports that the installation is OK so go ahead and generate the webhelp from your project.

Just managed to update Robohlep classic to 14.0.14 version with my IT support.

Will generate a new project.

It is so hard to have text ongoing to solve issues like this.

Remote log in or get the project details would be effective.

what output can generate .chm file, not only webhelp right?  

The sample project generated result is close what required. 

Have to deal with other priority items for now, wait for the feedback from support person yesterday.

Remote log in or get the project details would be effective. - Working remotely when troubleshooting is not as effective as having the project.
