Importing word document

Is it possible to import a hundred page word document and have RH8 create a new topic for each  Head1 it finds in word doc.

Yes it is. In the Import Settings you select Pagination for the Heading 1 style. See the Importing and Linking page at http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh_tour/index.htm
