Inserting a link to remote topic: list of topics empty

New Here ,
Nov 17, 2010 Nov 17, 2010

I'm trying to insert a link to a remote topic.

I click Insert Hyperlink, and then in the Hyperlink dialog, I select "Remote Topic" Under "Link to". In the Select Remote Topic dialog, I choose the appropriate HTML Help file.

When it works, I get a list of topics to choose from. Unfortunately, it doesn't work so often, so usually the list is empty.

I've tried restarting RoboHelp (didn't help), I've tried deleting the CPD file and then restarting RoboHelp (also didn't help), and I've tried restarting the computer (did help but only for the first link. If I want to add another link, I have to reboot the computer again).

Any ideas of how to fix this issue?

Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer and welcome to the RH forums.

Where are your RH source files? If they are on a network drive, move them to a local drive and see if the same problem occurs. If your source is local, this sounds like some sort of resource issue. Is it the same with all CHM links or just one? That should help you narrow down the problem.

The files are all stored locally, and the same thing happens with all CHM links.

It's a little odd (or at least so I think) that I can insert a remote link the first time after I start RoboHelp, but then it stops working until I reboot.

Thanks for the help!

Is this happening in just one project? Also can I check that RoboHelp is installed on your PC and not on a server or network drive. Try creating a new project and test it there. If it happens there as well, there is a workaround but it is rather fiddly and prone to error. You can manually type in the path to the CHM file and topic name.
