Linking FrameMaker files fails with "This operation cannot be completed without FrameMaker"

There was a previous thread on this subject, but it does not provide a solution (that I can divine) and the thread seems to be closed to further discussion.

Problem:

When attempting to link FrameMaker files to a RoboHelp project, I get this error: "This operation cannot be completed without FrameMaker. Please install FrameMaker and try again."

Software Versions Affected:

I have these versions of Frame and RoboHelp installed:

  • RoboHelp HTML 8.0.2.208
  • FrameMaker 7.1p116

Has anyone defeated this error? I don't have the Frame installation CD at my home office to reinstall.

I think the only way you can link FM files to a RH project is with the Technical Communications Suite. The standalone version of RH can import FM files, but not link them. What are you trying to do?

Well, darn. I do have the Technical Communications Suite, but I am using an older version of RoboHelp because of the glacial pace at which my organization adopts change.

I reckon I will install the new version of Frame and see if that does the trick.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

You'll need the suite because it's got extra hooks that link the 2 together that the standalone versions don't have. TCS is more than just a package deal, its got extra stuff too.
