Many files outdated or different than server

Guest

Using RH8 / RSC 3.1 with Windows XP.

Not a big project (95 topics), and I am the only writer.  For some reason many files are showing either in light yellow or light purple in RSC.

I always respond Yes to "get the latest files" and I always check in all files.

How can there be different content, or older files on my machine?  How can I get them back in balance?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Joe

As to how they got that way, are there any automated processes that run on your PC or the RSC server that might cause a very small change? I could see that fooling "Get latest" into thinking that there is no important change, so there is no need to get an updated file.

You can right-click the yellow filename in RSC and view differences - that may give you an idea of what kind of change you are looking for.

What's more important than how it happened is how to fix it. I hate to say "view changes for all topic and image files and figure out which version to keep," but that's probably the answer here.

  1. View differences for the topic from RoboSource Control.
  2. Decide which version of a topic is correct (your PC or RSC).
  3. Open the project in RoboHelp on your PC, if you haven't got it open already.
  4. Check out the topic from the RoboHelp project on your PC.
  5. In the Leave/Replace dialog box from RSC:
    • Pick "Leave" if the correct version is on your PC.
    • Pick "Replace" if the correct version is in RSC - this will copy the RSC version to your PC.
  6. Check the topic back in.

Elisa

Elisa,

Thanks so much for the info.  I'll take a look Monday and see what I can resolve and post the results here.

I am having a larger problem with passwords right now though (another posting).

Regards,

Joe
