Moved directories - TOC is gone

New Here ,
Oct 28, 2009 Oct 28, 2009

I manually created a TOC in RH from a linked FM book... then we had to move directories (we are using SVN).

So I had to delete the RH book and re-link it to the new one in the new directory location. Now, my manual TOC doesn't work anymore... even though the file names are all the same still... can I somehow get it back? Or do I need to redo it??

Thx

Adriana

Given that I've not received any responses, I am assuming that there is no solution (or at least no easy solution) to the above. So I will modify my query and subjet somewhat...

We are done moving directories. But it might happen again... so I know I'm going to need to know how to make a good, consistent TOC in RH...

We are creating a big FM book with a bunch of chapters. The chapters are being added slowly as we write new material. I have imported the book into RH (the few chapters that are signed off and ready to go) so I want to create a manual TOC to accomodate what I need. Then, I as I add chapters to the FM book and update the RH online help, I need to manually update the TOC each time.  Of note - importing the FM TOC currently won't work for me, it doesn't set up the TOC the way I need it. I am looking at finding a way to make THAT work instead but in the interim I figure I'd look at the manual TOC creation in RH...

I can't seem to find too much info about making a TOC manually in RH- any suggestions on finding info?

TIA,

-A

Would you like this post to be put in the FrameMaker Integration forum? I am thinking that might frequented more by other TCS users.

Hi Peter, yes that is likely a good idea... I don't know how to move it. If you can, or can tell me how, I'd appreciate your direction.

Hi Adriana,

Did you ever find a way to get the TOC back?  I just had the same experience and was hoping for an easier solution than a manual rebuild.  I have my TOC structure (books) in place, but that's it.

Thanks,

Carmen

Unfortunately, no. We moved away from that practice too - I now do all my authoring, including the TOC and index, in FM, then import to RH. I then just change things in FM, and update RH: everything flows in the same direction.

OK.  That looks like what I'll have to do.  Thanks so much for your answer.
