Need direction on developing technical expertise

Over the past 1.5 years I have been authoring in RoboHelp X5 and Publishing to RoboEngine 4. It has become apparent to me that I can do more with this application than I am doing. We will be upgrading to RH7 Client and Server soon.

I want to understand the architecture of RH Client and Server rather than just authoring. Can anyone suggest where I should begin?
