Open a Word document from Robohelp

Hi, Folks!

Now, I have another problem. Opening a document (Word, Excel, etc.) from a RoboHelp topic is working okay, but the documents are opening in a browser window. Is there some way to, say, open a Word document in MS Word, an Excel document in Excel, etc.? The research we've done so far hasn't produced results relevant to this issue.

Hi, Peter!

Thanks for the suggestion, but ... it doesn't work. I followed the steps: Tools - Folder Options - File Types - Advanced - but the Confirm Open after Download was not checked -- it was already "Clear," as your instructions said to do.

So, the Word document still opens in the RoboHelp frame. What we're hoping to do is to click a hyperlink, open a document (in Word, for example) and be able to edit, add, delete, etc. This was possible before, when RoboHelp was (I presume) copying the document and placing the copy in a Temporary Internet Files folder.

Is it still possible?

Lon,
Peter's method works on my machine (XP Pro SP1, Word XP, IE 6). Although the Word document does not come up in a Word window, it is fully editable and saveable into any folder on your machine. Offline, the saved document is then fully editable in Word. You can script the link to open in either the current browser window or a new window.
