Trying to created Printed Documentation in RH9, but the "PDF Settings" button is disabled on the Print Document General - Printed Documentation window (I removed the client info)
.
I can't figure out why I can't access this button. Anyone else run into this?

Sorry but I don't think that having the check box enabled but the settings disabled has been reported before. The only thing I can suggest is a reinstall.
I'm assuming you are using the PDF writer that ships with RoboHelp.
The only other thing I can think of is that you post installing RoboHelp you have installed another PDF writer and that somehow it has clobbered Acrobat. Doubtful but it's a thought.

Thanks Peter,
I've tried reinstalling both RH and Acrobat, and neither fixed the problem with the button being inactive. I'm not sure how to change what program is used to generate PDFs from RH, but for some reason it's not wanting to use it's own PDF Maker.
Any other thoughts?

What version of RoboHelp and what version of Acrobat?
Are you able to install both of those versions in trial mode on another machine and, if so, do you get the same result?
Do you have any other PDF programs on your machine? Open Word and check the printers shown, any PDF apps will be shown there.

Hi,
I'm experiencing the same problem. I recently upgraded from RoboHelp 7 to RoboHelp 9. In RoboHelp 9, both the "Generte Adobe PDF" option and the "PDF settings" button were disabled. After upgrading to MS Office 2010, the option was accessible but the button still wasn't.
I tried reinstalling RoboHelp, installing the latest version of Adobe Reader (10.1.0), uninstalling another PDF printer. Nothing seems to work.
My colleagues are using RoboHelp 9 as well and they are not having this problem, even though they have another PDF printer installed and they are using MS Office 2007 or 2010.

Adobe Reader has nothing to do with this process, it is for reading PDF files whereas you want to write them.
From what you have said I suggest you involve IT and get them to uninstall RoboHelp using RevoUninstaller using the Advanced option. Ensure they only delete registry keys that are shown in bold. It's a free application and it cleans out all the registry keys that RoboHelp itself would leave behind.
Then install RoboHelp 9 again and make sure you include the PDF add-on when you install. Hopefully doing it that way and with Word already on the machine, the problem will be fixed.
If not then you may have to take this up with Adobe. Installation problems are free but I am not sure if they would regard this as an installation issue. Argue the point if necessary.
Let me emphasise involving IT in this as it involves registry changes.

Thanks Peter,
I proceeded as you suggested (uninstalling RoboHelp 9 and all previous versions of RoboHelp on my computer using RevoUninstaller and installing them again). I've even tried uninstalling the "Save as PDF or XPS add-in for MS Office 2007". There is still no change.
As a result, I've created a support case on the Adobe website today.

FWIW, I upgraded to Acrobat X and I am no longer having this problem. I now have access to the PDF Settings button and can create my Printed Documentation. I've been told in other forums that Acrobat 9 was not compatible with Microsoft Office 2010, so the PDF Maker functionality was disabled. Not sure if this is true or not, but since I paid to upgrade, it has solved my problems.
Thanks for all suggestions Peter!

In my first reply in this thread I said I was assuming you were using the PDF Writer that ships with RoboHelp. You didn't indicate you weren't. Later I asked what version of RoboHelp and Acrobat you were using.

FYI: as suggested by Adobe, I tried uninstalling MS Office 2010 and RoboHelp, creating a new local Windows Administrator account, reinstalling MS Office 2010 and RoboHelp 9 with this new account, but all my efforts were in vain ...

As far as I can see you haven't told us what you are using to write the PDFs. You need either the full version of Acrobat X or the PDF Add-on that ships with RoboHelp. You mentioned Adobe Reader but that is nothing to do with writing PDF files.

I don't have an Acrobat X licence. As for the PDF Add-on, I have installed all components when installing RoboHelp 9, so I suppose the PDF Add-on was included.

It's a separate check box when you install. Can you remember ensuring it was ticked? If not it would do no harm to run the install again.

If you have a topic open in RoboHelp and go to File > Print Design are you seeing Adobe PDF? If you do and you select that, does Preferences let you see the settings?
I cannot test as I have Acrobat X and would expect to see something different.

I'm sure the check box was ticked. There's no Adobe PDF in File > Print Design ...

I had checked with a colleague who doesn't have Acrobat X and who installed the Add-on, he does have Adobe PDF so that suggests you didn't have the option ticked. I would try again.

I'm sure I had the option ticked each time I installed RoboHelp. By default, the option is ticked and I also ticked "All components". I did run the install again as you suggested and the button is still not available...
I have checked with my colleagues and they do have Adobe PDF so this missing printer must be the problem. Is there a way to add it manually?

You said you don't have Acrobat X but do you have an older version of Acrobat installed?

If you don't have the earlier version of Acrobat installed, try this.
Download the latest trial version of RoboHelp (assuming you are not using the Technical Communication Suite).
Uninstall again using Revo Uninstaller and then install using the new download. It has an enhanced PDF writer that should work with Word 2010 and hopefully give you an enabled settings button.
That begs the question as to why your colleagues with Word 2010 are not having this problem. You are sure they have 2010 and not 2007 as this problem is 2010 specific? Maybe they have later builds of the installation media.
Anyway try it and let us know how you get on.

I don't have Acrobat installed. As for RoboHelp 9 (I am not using the Technical Communication Suite), when I run Help > Updates, I get this message "Your applications are all up-to-date". So I assume that I already have the lastest version.
One of my colleagues is working with MS Office 2010, the other with MS Office 2007.

Help > Updates is only looking for patches.
Please try a new download. My advice is based on information I have been given by the RoboHelp product manager.

Before I can go back to Adobe, I need to confirm that you uninstalled and reinstalled rather than just installing over the top of the existing installation. Also please go to Help > About and tell me the build number. It will be start 9.0.1 and be followed by a three digit number. It might be worth getting that from the machine where 2010 is working OK.

I uninstalled RoboHelp 9 (using Revo Uninstaller) and installed the trial version from the Adobe website. The build number is 9.0.1.262. It is the same as that of the version installed on my machine.
Thanks for your efforts, Peter.
