PDF Table of Contents is only generating "Sections" and not the "Pages" in the sections.

I recently created and generated PDF Output in my robohelp project. I got the TOC going for the PDF, but when I generate the Output for the PDF, only the "Sections" or "Books" appear in the TOC and *not the "Pages" when I view the Output. How do I get the "Pages" or "Topics" that are in my TOC to appear as well?

You haven't said which version of RoboHelp you are using. Please always start a thread with this information. Go to Help > About to get the full version number. I will assume you are using RoboHelp2022.

There are a number of settings that control the appearance of the TOC. You will need to look at https://www.grainge.org/RoboHelp_Tour/rh2022/outputs/pdf_templates.htm. In particular look at Settings > General.

Hi, Peter. Yep, i'm running version 2022.6.34. While trying to fix my issue, I noticed in the html of my TOC that only the "Book" tags or "Sections" if you will, in my TOC are coming out in Adobe Acrobat once generated. The "Pages or Topics" are not apearing. Question. What is taking hold of the "Pages" in a book TOC?

You're getting the TOC but not the topics?

Yes, precisely. Only the Sections are appearing in Adobe Acrobat after I generate the output. That's why I'd like to know what is taking hold of the Topics or Pages.

Late thought. Are you generating to a local drive and is the project on the same drive?

Unfortunately I can't share it, as it has sensitive info. The information about what actually takes hold of "Topics or Pages" in a book TOC, would be very helpful to the community though if someone ever has the same issue as I do. Still trying to solve my issue.

I'll take a look in the morning but the TOC is based on the content so getting a TOC without the content  doesn't make sense.

You can try Support but I would guess they'll want the project as well or a screen share. I suggest for this one you need to go to Adobe Support. See https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#robohelp for your Adobe Support options. The email link tcssup@adobe.com is recommended as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including RoboHelp.

Have you checked the output settings as well or tried a different template.

Also ttest the About RoboHelp sample project.

Just a WAG, but have you tried the sample project to see if it behaves the same?

I had already suggested that. Did you see some other suggestions I made?

Yes, I cheked the output settings many times just to be sure. And even using a different template needs a stylesheet linked to it. That's why I think it's something in the css or html. Unfortunately "Topics" are still not showing up.

I have a hunch that my TOC issue is lying somewhere in the HMTL or CSS for my PDF. I found some info in the Adobe Robohelp documentation that kind of pertains to this:

You are showing the TOC but the issue is is not the TOC, at least that what you confirmed earlier. I understood you were seeing the TOC but the body of the PDF does not contain those topics.

Please clarify what the problem is.

No, the TOC is what the issue is in my PDF. It's exactly how I explained in my comments above. "Topics" in my TOC are not appearing in Adobe Acrobat, but "Sections" are appearing. It's worth noting as well that I have Sections included in Sections to organize my content in the TOC.

How many pages are there in the PDF?

What does the TOC page numbering say and how many are there in reality?

There is a total of 516 pages in my PDF doc. And the TOC lists up to 504 pages. Here is a mock up of what the TOC is displaying in Adobe Acrobat Reader when I generate the output:

Mathematix14_0-1760559071322.png

There are literaly no "Topics or Pages" being displayed. Just the Sections.

While the TOC should ACTUALLY look like this when I generate the output:

So the topics are in the PDF, it is simply they are not in the TOC. That is where we have been misunderstanding each other.

OK I'll look into in the morning but I'm pretty sure that is covered in the page on my site that I linked to. It's trial and error with different settings.

Yep, that's the issue. Topics are in there (the PDF), they are just not being generated and being displayed in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
