Using Rohohelp HTML 10 on win 7
Even though I set project settings to "do not regenerate images", when i import a Framemaker file (.fm), the images are regenerated to the FM anchored frame dimension (FM "object properties" scaling). This makes the RH imported image poor quality.
How do I preserve the original jpg image? I would manually replace the images (copy and replace) from framemaker to the new RH project except it's a multi chapter framemaker book and i only want one chapter images (which means hunt and peck for the images).
Here's what i did:

I think my question got missed since Peter G. was only moving it from the robohelp html forum, not providing an answer. I am having a problem preserving JPG resolution when importing Framemaker files into Robohelp.

Depends on what resolution you’re bringing them into FM and how (pasting? Import by reference?)
There’s a few blog posts on the Adobe Tech Comm blog about graphics

Jeff, Thank you for taking up my question.
All the images in framemaker were imported by reference into anchored frames.
I did adjust the "scaling" settings in framemaker object properties to make them fit. However, since they were imported by reference, the source images are not changed.
Are you suggesting that even though they are in framemaker by reference, since i adjusted the object properties, they will be reimaged (regardless) when imported into rohohelp?

Not sure – I don’t really use a lot of graphics in my FM to RH project, so I can’t help you too much with the subject. Have you had a look at some of the discussions in this forum about images?

I searched in this forum on "images" and within the first 60 listings found one relevant listing named "Image conversion settings".from 2011.
If i understand the discussion, I did learn a couple things:
1) "do not regenerate images" seems to mean that if you are re-importing framemaker files, you can avoid re-regenerating the images that were regenerated from a previous import, so i had wrong idea there.
2) If i do not want to use re-imaged images, the work around is to do the import to robohelp and then replace the images using the source image files from the framemaker project.
One problem with option 2 is that i find in some cases (reason unknown) the images get renamed where frame or robohelp adds an extension to the file name like changing "image.jpg" to "image001.jpg." during the robohelp import conversion. In this case, the work around does not help.

It would change them to preserve a unique name for each image – you probably have more than one image named the same in FM.

Since the framemaker images are added by reference, it is unlikely there could be more than on image named the same --unless they were imported from different directories, however, the same image may be used multiple times throughout the chapter. I suppose, if during the import, the conversion came across multiple instances of the image, your suggestion may be the reason it changes the file name.
One other thing i see that i will note here is that if the image does not fill the entire anchored frame in framemaker, then during the conversion the new image includes white space to account for the anchored frame area. This is also a problem. This makes it more difficult to position the new image based on the new robohelp format. I'm surprised i did not find more discussion about these issues in the forum.

You don’t use the Esc M P trick to shrink wrap your images in FM?

Been using Framemaker regularly for +15 years and had no idea about "Make the frame Pretty". Live and learn, or rather, take a guess as to why i'm converting the project to robohelp.
