Project Doesn't Generate Using the Correct Fonts

New Here ,
Sep 25, 2008 Sep 25, 2008
In the last week, I kept getting an error that RoboHelp couldn't start/open Word. I had version 6.0 completely un-installed and re-installed on my computer this morning. The text appears correct in the Word document, but when I generate the project, it doesn't use my styles.

I referred to Snippet 51 and tried using the patch (as I have Word 2003). When I tried the new .dll file, I got an error message to re-install RoboHelp.

Is there anything else I can do?

Did you install RH with full admin rights?

Yes, it was installed with full Admin rights.

That Snippet was for RH X5, not 6. You need to reinstate the RH6 DLL.

RH6 also has to be run with admin rights.

Replace the DLL and if necessary uninstall / reinstall to get RH working again, albeit with the wrong font.

Then maybe look at the other suggestions on my site.

I should have stated that I went back to the old .dll file and that I was able to get back into the project.

Anyway... I looked around your site for additional information (I even tried the other suggestions from the Snippet). Still no luck...

1] Try creating a dummy project with just a couple of topics.

2] Try importing the document into a new project.

Any difference?

Also, is it just one font being replaced by another? Which fonts?

Hi Peter -- I tried doing that with no avail. I've also tried it with several projects with the same outcome.

It should be generating the entire project in Verdana. Right now, all "Normal" text and nearly everything else is appearing as Arial. The only things that are appearing as Verdana are two custom-defined styles specific to my documentation standards (one is a bold font, one is a bold and blue font).

If you want to zip the project and send it via http:\\www.transferbigfiles.com, I'll take a look but I am pretty sure this will be specific to your PC. You could install RH on another PC and I suspect it would be OK there.

We were able to get the project to generate properly on someone else's computer. The problem is, that's a short-term solution. I have the exact same templates as that individual in my Microsoft Templates folder. I also have the exact same RoboHelp 6.0 templates. Is there another folder I'm missing that RoboHelp is looking to when it generates?

Yes I realise it is a short term solution. It was only intended to prove that it is nothing in your project and that has been done.

Based on the cause of this problem in X5, it would seem likely the cause is a Microsoft patch. You have already gone down the route of reinstalling so it is not RH complaining that it was not installed after Word.

The only other things I can suggest are:

1] Do you both have the same Service Packs applied? (Check Help | About in Word.

2] Go into Control Panel, Add/Remove and tick Show Updates. Then compare what you have against what your colleage has. Maybe that will identify something.

I think this may be it... I have Service Pack 3, but I think she is on a different one for some reason. I can't check until Monday, but I will definitely let you know if that was it for future reference for people with the same issue.

Thanks for your help.

From an earlier reply it looks like a new project on your machine has the same problem. Test that too on your colleague's machine.

If it works on hers and not yours, zip up that dummy project and send it to me via http:\\www.transferbigfiles.com.

I'll try it on a couple of machines and see what happens.

Hi Peter -- I sent you the dummy project I created. Instead of it generating using Arial (which it had been before), it generated with Times New Roman (this is still not right as the Style is Verdana).

I sent it to the alternate address because I couldn't get the main one to work. Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks for your help.

(It turns out both of our computers are on SP 3.)

I opened your project and found the source document is set to Arial. I generated and got Verdana. The giveaway difference being how how 1 appears. In Arial it just has a top serif and in Verdana it is a bottom serif as well.

I changed the Normal style in your Word document to Verdana and it generated Verdana. Then I changed Normal to Arial and it generated Arial.

Try playing around that area for a bit.
