"x-use-popup" and "x-popup-type" attributes

I'm working with old robohelp (vers 3) htm files which use "x-use-popup" and "x-popup-type" attributes in anchor tags for dropdown hotspots. These are not supported in the HTML 4.01 Transitional doctype and as such the files won't validate. What can I use in their place that is supported and will validate?
Posted in HTMLHelp forum a few weeks ago - no replies - does anybody know of supported attributes that accomplish the same thing? Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

You would need to try the latest version (RH7) on a non production machine. Is it an issue that it does not validate? I am assuming the help is working.

The Help is working fine. I don't have RH7, and suspect that these attributes are robohelp-specific, as they are not listed anywhere else in my research (ie W3C). I would like the topics to validate, and those attributes for the most part are the only obstacle. I suspect that the popups and dropdowns are created with javascript now, but I am not sure how to accomplish it. Thanks for the response.

Hi there nickpen

Are you seeing that this code exists in the output? What is the output? Does it work but the only issue is it won't validate? If so, why is validation so important? (oops, in re-reading the post, I see Peter asked the same thing)

As Peter indicated, you really should take a look at RoboHelp 7. It offers a nifty little check box when you create output so that the result should pass W3C validation.

Cheers... Rick

Hi Rick,
Yes the code works in the output (output results in text popup window or dropdown window, depending on the attribute used.) Validation is important to me since that indicates correct, clean code. If those attributes are flagged, I suspect there must be a more current, W3C accepted method of accomplishing the same thing - i just can't find it! The code does work so it is not a huge problem, but a nagging one. I would like to get RH7, and the check box sounds helpful. What attributes are used in RH7 to achieve text popups and dropdowns?
Thanks for the response.

Hello again

RoboHelp uses JavaScript for all of its DHTML functions.

Cheers... Rick
