RH & CSS clarification needed

New Here ,

Hi all,

I'm new to RH and am just getting the hang of how it works. I'm currently trying to see how well RH will handle importing Word documents when it comes to mapping the word styles over to the CSS. Here are some observations, perhaps someone could let me know if I'm far off in left field.

1. It seems RD keeps 2 versions of every style in the default CSS, the original style (ie: P.FYI2ndLevelHeading) and a style that may be different or the same but named differently (ie: LI.kadov-P-CFYI2ndLevelHeading) why is this? It seems that when I change the style, it is not applied throughout all other topics until I force an update by reapplying it. It seems that at this point the two different styles are made the same. Am I way off?
2. If I only import a single word doc, I'm not able to select which css file I want the doc to use, instead a new css file is created specifcally for that file. Only when I import multiple files can I specify that I want them all to use the default.css file. Is there any way around this?
3. If I import two doc files at the same time, both with identical style names, but one of the styles in one file is slightly different (ie: a different color) I get strange results. What's the easiest way to force all the files that use the same CSS file to update with the new styles?

I apologize if the questions don't make much sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Al

Can't move it now.

There's a topic on my site about importing which should help a lot.

RoboHelp creates its own style sheet for each document you import. However you can individually select the topics created or locate them in the Topic tab and change to your preferred style sheet.

The kadov stuff is there to assist in the display in the WYSIWYG editor. I do all my style sheet editing in another program and thus no kadov stuff appears in the style sheet. Still works in the editor though.

Welcome to the forum.

You have posted this in the RoboHelp for Word forum but it sounds like you are importing a Word document into RoboHelp HTML. Please confirm which product you are using. Also advise which version you are using, X5, RH6?

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm actually not new to the forums, I used to be a frequent contributer to the AW forums, but with RH I'm a fish out of water. Sorry for posting to wring forum, perhaps this could be moved into the appropriate forum then.

Yes I am using RH HTML version 6. My OS is Windows 2000 and I'm using Word 2000.

Thanks for the link Peter, I checked it out and found it very informative. I'll probably be editing the css in DW. It's good to know that I can strip out all that kadov stuff, it was a little confusing.

My a second question if you don't mind:

When importing a word doc that contains an image, a separate image folder is created for every doc file. IS there any way to force this to just go to one image folder?

I don't think you can but you only need to drag and drop those images to where you want them and then delete that folder. A few minutes work.

As long as you move images within Project Manager, RH does indeed update the links like Dreamweaver.
