RH can't open the settings.isf file. NOW what am I to do?

I have TCS 2 and am linking FM9 book to RH8 project.

I had some problem with my TOC and couldn't figure it out, so I decided to start a new RH project and relink my book. When I tried to load the settings from my stetting.isf file, I get the following error message: "Experiencing problem opening the setting file. Please import another settings file." I don't HAVE another settings file. THIS is the one I have worked to build over the last four MONTHS. I tried exporting settings from other projects, and it tells me it exported successfully, but gives me the same error when trying to load the settings file. Please, please help me. I am supposed to be done with this project today.

Missy

Hello all,

I'm having this exact same problem. I am using TCS 3 and am linking a FM book. I can't get the isf file to import. It gives me an error and then asks me to use another settings file.

I tried to follow the instructions here, but it just doesn't work.

http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2010/03/demystifying_mapping_filesettingisf_and_toc_generation.html

And the weird part is, I tried several times and finally exported an isf file directly to the root of my C: drive, but the error message kept referring to the file as if it were located on my Desktop (which was the original location I used).

I really need help with this one - looks like I'll miss my deadline on Monday otherwise.

thanks.s

I cannot help you with this problem but I am thinking it might help the people who can if you were to add screenshots of the error messages. Use the camera icon above to insert them.

That's a good idea Peter. I've attached some screen shots, and here are the steps I followed:

  1. Open project that has the FrameMaker to Robohelp settings defined.
  2. Select File > Project Settings
  3. In the Project Settings dialog, select "Save Settings to:" In this example, I used the following location: C:\test\settings.isf
  4. Click ok.
  5. Click File > Close Project
  6. Open the project that I need to import settings into.
**Note that this project uses the same template as the project I used to export settings; in other words, it has the exact same set of paragraph tags, character tags, colors, cross-ref formats, etc defined.
  7. Attempt #1: I am trying to import my settings BEFORE linking the FrameMaker book.
  8. File > Project settings.
  9. Load Settings from:
    c:\test\settings.isf

Note the error message (screen cap attached). I'm not sure where it's looking for the file, but it isn't the location I specificed.

It seems to be looking here:
C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Local Settings\Temp\IFSfolder

  1. Attempt #2 Link the Frame book and THEN try to import the settings. Same results.

I'd say your issue isn't coming from the .isf file import, it from the css you're using (or that the project thinks you are using). Try killing off that temp folder & make sure that whatever css you are using is located in the correct place. Then try the .isf import.

Hi Jeff,

I did try to delete everything in that temp folder - it didn't work.

The correct CSS file is defined in the project, and it is the right one that's in the temp folder...

That's an odd place for a project's default RHStyleMapping.css file - I just checked where all of mine are hiding; other than the ones inside each project's folder, the default one seems to come from the c:\program files\adobe\adobe robohelp 9\template folders. How did yours end up there?

Hi Jeff,

My CSS file is in the project folder too. But when I did all this business with the ISF file, it got copied to that temp folder. I did not manually put it there. What I meant was, I checked it, and the one that got copied is the correct CSS file that also exists in my Project folder.

Missy, thanks for your response. My project is a new project. I chose my template (created with the project template generator script) to create a new project and the first thing I did after that was try to import the isf file.

The only way I was able to resolve this, was to open a new project, import the settings.isf and re-link the book.
