RH7 hotspots not working in CHM output

New Here ,
Dec 19, 2007 Dec 19, 2007
Hi,
I'm trying out RH7 for Word the first time. I have a bitmap image saved with two hotspots defined. I created them initially using the New Popup option. I generated the CHM file but the popups do not appear. On my second attempt, I selected Popup since the topics are now in the word document. Still no popups.

I wanted to see the effect of visible and invisible hotspots so one is visible and the other not. I've also named both.

I'm using Word 2007.

Any suggestions?

Hi cnicho and welcome to our community

The only suggestion I would have would be to strongly consider moving away from RoboHelp for Word and toward RoboHelp HTML if you are intent on producing output types that are HTML based.

Sorry I don't have anything truly constructive to offer with regards to correcting your issue. The thing is, most folks that produce .CHMs or a WebHelp variant have long ago switched applications..

Sincerely... Rick

Hi Rick,
Thanks for the welcome.

The RH7 for Word seemed less daunting to start with. Now I've spent some time with it, RH7 HTML seems easier. However, I seem to have less control over the output, i.e. I can't seem to get it to include a Favourites tab in the CHM file.

How is it done?

Hi cnicho,

Make sure your primary layout is .chm.
Go to the Project Set up tab.
Click on the Windows folder and open up the default window properties (just double click on the window name).
There are a heap of options under Tri-Pane Tabs and Windows including a checkbox for the favourites tab.

Hope that helps

Hi again

Getting the Favorites to show in a .CHM will likely vary between the tools. I'll be happy to tell you how for RoboHelp HTML, as I use that. It's been so long since I used RoboHelp for Word, I'd be hard pressed to tell you how (or even if it's possible) using that application.

For RoboHelp HTML though, you edit the Window properties. So locate your Windows pseudo folder and expand it. Then edit the default window. There is a check box in the Window propertes dialog that allows you to enable the Favorites tab.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks everyone. I'll post further RH HTML related questions in the right forum next time 🙂
