I'm having this same problem but I only have 1 version on my computer. I'm trying to open a version 5.x file in version 8.
Can anyone help?
Steph

Did that machine have X5 on it before?
Did you buy an upgrade licence?
If yes to both, did you uninstall X5 before installing RH8?
Did you install with admin rights? If you did not, I don't think it would return this error but it is worth checking.

Hi,
Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly!
It did have x5 on it before, and I used to get the same error, but I just ignored it. I did just buy the upgrade to 8 yesterday and installed it. I did not remove X5 before installing version 8.
Right now, I have removed all things robohelp on my computer, and am about to reinstall everything. Can I just install my upgrade to 8 or do I have to reinstall X5 as well?
I do have admin rights.
Thanks,
Steph

If you were getting the message before, it's anyone's guess what the cause is.
Don't install X5 again. Just install RH8. You will need the X5 serial number during the install.
Post back how you get on.

I wiped my system clean of anything RoboHelp, and installed RH8 and I'm still having problems. Now I have other issues I didn't before and new error messages.
When I open "RH for Word" I get the following errors.
1. Run-time error '49':
Bad DLL calling convention
I click "End"
then I get "RoboHelp Explorer is unable to start Microsoft Word" but word seems to start just fine.
I click "ok"
Microsoft HTML Help is set as my Primary layout and when I compile it says I have a fatal error, but then the line after it says that it compiled fine. When i try to run my chm file I get this error.
cannot open the file: mk:@MSITStore: c:\path of my chm file
The history of how I got here.... Our project was working with RH5X (we were using winhelp 4 as primary layout) but the context sensitive help with the .hlp file wasn't working for our Vista users so we switched to the chm format. Once we switched our context sensitive help stopped working on our dialogs for all OS's, and when we did a "search" in the main help, it pulled up all the search results plus the ID's from the CSH.
I called Robohelp for help, and they basically told me they didn't support 5X anymore ad upgrade and then call back if the problem wasn't fixed. Now I have more problems.
I'm getting really frustrated!
Any help would be EXTREAMLY and GREATLY appreciated!!!

Panic not.
First apply the three patches that were issued during RH's lifetime. Go to Help > Updates.
The Run Time 49 error is covered on my site under Using RH7.
For Cannot Find Word, email me via my site and I will send you a replacement file.
The answer to mk:@MSITStore is posted somewhere, I'm tracking it down.
